What this covers
Water from melting snow reaching a building from outside - through a basement wall, a window well, a slab joint or an entry at grade. It follows the snowpack's calendar rather than the weather's, which is why basements flood on dry days in spring.
When to call
During the melt weeks, when snow against the house or up the slope above it is going, when the ground is still frozen or already saturated, and when a sump that has sat idle all winter is suddenly running.
What the work involves
Standing water out, affected material assessed for what the water carried on its way in, and lower walls and floors opened where water reached them. Because the melt goes on for weeks, the source is usually still active when the work starts.
